Method
- Combine sliced strawberries with 1/4 cup sugar; let sit for 15 minutes.
- Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C). Mix dry ingredients, cut in butter until crumbly.
- Add heavy cream and vanilla; stir until just combined, then knead lightly and cut into rounds.
- Bake shortcakes for 12-15 minutes until golden. Cool slightly.
- Whip remaining heavy cream until soft peaks form. Slice shortcakes, layer strawberries and whipped cream, then top with the other half.
Notes
Use fresh strawberries for best flavor and texture.
