  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 0.33 cup white sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 large egg lightly beaten
  • 2 cups buttermilk
  • 0.25 cup butter melted

Method
 

  1. Preheat oven to 325°F (165°C). Grease a 9x5-inch loaf pan.
  2. Combine dry ingredients. Mix egg and buttermilk, add to dry ingredients, and stir in butter. Pour into pan.
  3. Bake for 65-70 minutes, until golden brown and a toothpick comes out clean. Cool on a wire rack.

Notes

For a richer flavor, use salted butter and add a handful of raisins or currants to the dough.
