Method
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line two 8-inch round cake pans.
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
- Cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy (about 3-4 minutes). Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Mix in vanilla extract.
- Alternately add the flour mixture and milk to the butter mixture, beginning and ending with flour. Mix until just combined. Add food coloring if desired.
- Divide batter evenly between prepared pans. Bake for 28-32 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Cool in pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
- Frost the cooled cakes with cream cheese frosting or vanilla buttercream. Decorate with edible flowers or gold leaf as desired.

Ensure ingredients are at room temperature for best results. Adjust food coloring for desired hue.
