Ingredients
  

Dry ingredients
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
Wet ingredients
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1/4 cup molasses
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar for dusting

Method
 

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheet with parchment.
  2. Mix dry ingredients in a bowl. Cream butter and sugar, then add molasses, egg, vanilla.
  3. Combine wet and dry, chill dough 30 minutes. Form into balls, coat with powdered sugar.
  4. Place on baking sheet, bake 10-12 minutes. Cool before serving.

Notes

Chilling the dough makes it easier to handle and shapes better.
