Ingredients
  

Dry ingredients
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1.5 cups granulated sugar
  • 2.5 teaspoons baking powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
Wet ingredients
  • 0.5 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup milk
  • 3 large eggs
  • 2.5 teaspoons vanilla extract
Frosting and decoration
  • 4 cups buttercream frosting store-bought or homemade
  • as needed Food coloring for tinting the frosting
  • as needed Edible flowers or fondant flowers for decoration

Method
 

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour three 8-inch pans.
  2. Cream butter and sugar, add eggs one at a time. Mix dry ingredients, alternate with milk, then add vanilla.
  3. Divide batter into pans, bake for 25-30 minutes. Cool and level the cakes.
  4. Assemble layers with frosting, apply crumb coat, chill, then finish with smooth frosting. Decorate with colored frosting and flowers.

Notes

Chill the cake before decorating for best results.
