Ingredients
  

Dough
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup crushed hard candies (like jolly ranchers or life savers)
  • optional powdered sugar for dusting for dusting after baking

Method
 

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment.
  2. Mix dry ingredients; cream butter and sugar, add egg and vanilla, then combine with dry ingredients to form dough.
  3. Divide dough, chill for 30 minutes, then roll out to 1/4-inch thickness.
  4. Cut out shapes with cookie cutters, fill centers with crushed candies, and bake for 8-10 minutes.
  5. Cool cookies, then dust with powdered sugar if desired and serve.
