  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 cup raisins
  • 1.75 cups buttermilk

Method
 

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease and flour a 9x5 inch loaf pan.
  2. Whisk together flour, sugar, baking soda, baking powder, salt, and cinnamon in a large bowl.
  3. Stir in raisins.
  4. Make a well in the center and pour in buttermilk.
  5. Stir until just combined. Do not overmix.
  6. Pour batter into prepared loaf pan.
  7. Bake for 50-60 minutes, or until a wooden skewer inserted into the center comes out clean.
  8. Let cool in pan for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

For a richer flavor, try using brown sugar instead of granulated sugar.
