Method
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Cream butter and powdered sugar until fluffy. Mix in egg, vanilla, and peppermint extracts.
- Combine flour and salt; gradually add to wet mixture to form dough. Divide in half.
- Add red food coloring to one half. Roll both dough halves into 6-inch ropes, twist together to form candy canes.
- Place on parchment-lined baking sheet, bake 10-12 minutes. Cool and sprinkle with crushed candy canes.
Notes
Chill the dough if it becomes too soft for easier handling.
