Ingredients
  

Cake Batter
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • cups sugar
  • ¾ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup milk (or plant-based milk)
  • ½ cup vegetable oil
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup hot coffee or hot chocolate for richness
Buttercream
  • 1 cup butter, softened (or vegan butter)
  • 3 cups powdered sugar
  • ½ cup homemade or store-bought caramel sauce
  • 1 tsp sea salt (adjust to taste)
Decorations
  • to taste Extra caramel drizzle
  • to taste Chocolate curls or shavings
  • to taste Optional: edible gold flakes or fresh raspberries

Method
 

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line pans.
  2. Mix dry ingredients (flour, sugar, cocoa, baking agents, salt). Whisk wet ingredients (eggs, milk, oil, vanilla, hot coffee). Fold wet into dry until smooth.
  3. Divide batter and bake for 30–35 minutes until a toothpick inserted comes out clean. Cool completely.
  4. Make buttercream: beat butter until smooth, then gradually add powdered sugar, caramel, and salt until fluffy.
  5. Assemble the cake: frost layers, stack, and coat sides and top with buttercream. Decorate with caramel drizzle, chocolate curls, or raspberries.

Notes

Ensure cakes are completely cooled before frosting to prevent melting.
