Ingredients
  

Cake Batter
  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 ½ teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon salt
Frosting
  • 1 ½ cups unsalted butter, softened
  • 5 cups powdered sugar
  • ½ cup heavy cream
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Method
 

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Cream butter and sugar, add eggs, milk, vanilla, then mix dry ingredients and combine. Divide batter into pans and bake for 30-45 minutes. Cool completely.
  2. Make frosting by beating butter, gradually adding powdered sugar, then mixing in cream and vanilla. Add food coloring if desired.
  3. Assemble the cake: layer cooled cakes, spread frosting between layers, then cover the top and sides. Decorate as desired.

Notes

Ensure cakes are completely cooled before frosting to prevent melting.
